Men's hockey N4 FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS MEN'S HOCKEY LEAGUE: SOUTH WEST DIVISION ONE: Penzance A 2, Bodmin A 1 Thanks to a late push back Penzance went into this game knowing they could set a club record if they beat Bodmin. With the men's first team having won at Plymouth and both women's sides recording memorable results, Penzance could finish Saturday with all its league sides victorious. Impervious to this added pressure, however, Penzance went about their task in typical fashion. Saturday's opponents Bodmin are a blend of tough veterans and youth, schooled by a past master of the game in Bob Lees Barton. It didn't all go Penzance's way but defenders Scott Hamilton, Kevin Waldren and Simon Richards were in imperious form. And stand-in keeper George Badcock proved himself a remarkably adept last man with some superbly judged kicks. The plaudits of the day, however, went to right half Nick Squire, who combined marking Bodmin's speedy left winger with supporting the attack in a man of the match performance in which he covered every yard of the pitch. If this wasn't enough, his knack of getting to the post at the right time meant he finished Bodmin off with a well-deserved winner. This Saturday, Penzance face Dart at the Astro Park (2.30).
